When Depression Creeps In
It Does Not Always Look Like Sadness
Depression can look like numbness, anger, exhaustion, emptiness or not caring about things that used to matter. You may still go to work, joke with friends and look fine while struggling privately.
Losing Interest In Your Own Life
Hobbies, sport, sex, friendships, music and everyday plans stop feeling rewarding. You cancel things, avoid messages, and begin spending more time alone.
Your Body Starts Telling The Story
Sleeping too much or barely sleeping; feeling drained after rest; eating much more or less; unexplained aches; moving or speaking more slowly; or feeling constantly restless.
Your Thoughts Turn Against You
Small mistakes feel enormous. Concentration and decisions become difficult. You may feel guilty, worthless, hopeless or convinced everyone would be better off without you.
Your Habits Change
You stop showering, cleaning, answering the phone or opening mail. You may drink or use drugs more, take unusual risks, or struggle with work and relationships.
Do Not Wait For Rock Bottom
If changes last around two weeks, interfere with life, or concern you at any point, speak to a doctor or mental-health professional. Other illnesses and medications can cause similar symptoms.
